01

Your first class

Begin with bachata rhythm and a small partner step. The Brazilian Zouk Dance Council movement list helps identify separate zouk movement tasks. Ask the teacher how the two forms meet, and explore head movement only with clear guidance and a range that feels comfortable.

Bachata moderna and sensual have their own timing and partner work; Brazilian Zouk brings different principles of weight and body waves. Learn each foundation separately, then explore how the teacher combines them.

Agree on a comfortable distance and small range with your partner. Before head or neck movement, ask the teacher to show its preparation, lead and an option to leave it out.

Hear one bachata and one Zouk recording before class. Notice differences in phrase length, pulse and room for a pause. When a pair blends techniques, shared listening helps them choose movement that fits the track.

Hear when bachata’s four-part pulse leads and when a teacher borrows Zouk movement flow.

Choosing a class

Questions to ask

  • How do you teach safe neck movement before joining bachata and Brazilian Zouk patterns?
  • When does bachata rhythm lead, and when does the movement flow change?
  • Can I come without a partner, how does rotation work, and how does the class discuss consent?

No account needed. Marks stay for up to 3 months.

How do marks work?

One mark per studio, for up to 10 studios every 24 hours. Each card keeps the 50 newest marks; a new one replaces the oldest. Each mark lasts up to 90 days. You can change yours every 10 seconds or remove it at any time. Changing it does not extend its expiry.

The most common reaction sets the color of the card's edge. These are visitor marks, not a studio rating.
