Lady Choreography

Lady Choreography turns styling elements into a clear routine. Keep a safe distance, control your elbows, and hear the rhythm throughout the routine.

01

Your first class

In a first class, styling elements become a short repeatable phrase. The teacher should explain spacing, elbows, and weight so expression remains safe and musical.

Learn when arms are free to style and when they must remain available to the lead.

Start by learning the song and dance form the routine uses. Learn the foot path without the arms, then add one styling accent. When the group changes positions, check that your movement leaves clear space for the person beside you.

02

What this class label means

Lady Choreography is a class for building a routine. Before joining, ask about the dance styles used, the level and whether the routine is intended for a performance.

Lady Choreography is a contemporary studio-stage label. If it uses salsa or bachata movement, their rhythm and history belong to those dances; the set sequence is a choreographer's choice. Ask how the teacher explains each part.

Culture and community

Ask whether the routine draws on salsa, bachata, jazz, pop, or heels. Discuss movement, clothing, and filming: you should be able to learn without performing one prescribed version of femininity.

A set solo routine can leave room for your interpretation. Try one phrase with a longer pause and another with a smaller arm movement. Ask whether performance and filming are optional, and choose clothes you can move in.

Ask which dance supplies the routine’s movements. NDEO’s choreography description covers phrase-making, while the UNESCO bachata entry documents one possible musical source.

Movement to notice

Space between dancers

A wide arm line must fit the room; expression begins with safe spacing.

Listen to the music

A short phrase should fit the song’s rhythm. An elegant arm without clear timing soon becomes a separate pose.

Choosing a class

Questions to ask

  • How do you teach wide arm lines while keeping space between dancers?
  • Which dance's music guides the routine, and is filming required?
  • How much time goes to technique, correction, and filming, and can I learn without appearing on video?

No account needed. Marks stay for up to 3 months.

How do marks work?

One mark per studio, for up to 10 studios every 24 hours. Each card keeps the 50 newest marks; a new one replaces the oldest. Each mark lasts up to 90 days. You can change yours every 10 seconds or remove it at any time. Changing it does not extend its expiry.

The most common reaction sets the color of the card's edge. These are visitor marks, not a studio rating.
