What might a first class feel like?
You may start with a familiar song and short phrase, but the teacher should unpack weight, groove, and dynamics. Copying a shape is easy; learning why it works is the real lesson.
Start with one chorus at 0.5–0.75 speed, then return to full tempo gradually.

Origins and class context
Pop Dance is a broad class label. Choreography may draw from pop videos, concert performance or a teacher’s own work. K-pop is one of the approaches within this broader category.
Culture and community
Music, movement and community depend on the approach a teacher chooses. Ask which forms this class draws from and how they are introduced.

See what to notice
The song’s hook
Learn a short chorus: where does it repeat, where does the accent change, and what is your interpretation?

Hear the music change
A familiar chorus helps you join in, but hear the quieter bar before it. A movement choice often starts there.

05
The teacher changes the dance
Look for a teacher who explains the rhythm, notices when you need help, adjusts the pace, and welcomes questions.
Try classes with several teachers. Compare how clearly they explain movements, how much time you get to practise, and how comfortable you feel asking for help.
Three useful questions
- How do you show weight transfer beneath a familiar pop routine?
- Will we learn one chorus or a longer routine, and is filming optional?
- Where can students practise safely after class and learn more about this style's music and community?

One name, several ways to dance
Pop Dance may teach broader movement to pop music. Pop Choreography more often builds one repeatable routine for a song or filming.
