Getting to know Solo Tango

Learner voices

What people say helps them learn

A solo-tango learning question brings up short balance, pivot, and weight-shift drills, while stressing that solo work cannot reproduce the connection of a tango partner.

  • Start with 10–20 minutes of body awareness rather than a long, fatiguing session.
  • Train one-leg balance, a clean stop after a pivot, and weight transfer through the foot.
  • Listen to tango and sometimes practise only walking to a phrase; a solo sequence is not social-dance substitute.
  • Check posture and walking periodically with a teacher or in a private lesson.

Local school

Vilnius Tango Theatre Academy

Vilnius school at Gedimino pr. 64 offers beginner and advanced tango, seminars, masterclasses, milongas, performances, and a six-month Lead & Follow Academy with culture and social practice. Its plans page also lists Solo Tango group packages and Tango Fit as distinct local offers.

Boundary: Local Argentine Tango pathway and programme labels; no global city or teacher ranking is inferred.

Local school

Vilnius Tango Theatre Academy — plans

The plans page lists Solo Tango group packages for one person and names Tango Fit alongside the Solo Tango offer. It also describes individual and partner lesson options, with technique, elements/figures, and customised lesson structure.

Boundary: Local product and pricing page; names and prices are date-sensitive and do not define Solo Tango or Tango Fit globally.

The short version

Grounded walking, axis, dissociation, musical phrasing and improvisation remain tango anchors even without a partner.

Live scene

Buenos Aires and Montevideo are the historical milonga centres; Vilnius Tango Theatre Academy provides a current Solo Tango class pathway.

Events

Milongas, seminars and masterclasses are the relevant social and learning events. The academy page does not claim a biggest Solo Tango event.

Geography

Solo practice inherits the Río de la Plata geography of Argentine tango while living in studios and solo programmes worldwide.

Culture

Solo Tango should teach tango as a social, poetic and musical culture, not only as a list of isolated poses.

Leave your mark

No account needed. Marks stay for up to 3 months.

How do marks work?

One mark per studio, for up to 10 studios every 24 hours. Each card keeps the 50 newest marks; a new one replaces the oldest. Each mark lasts up to 90 days. You can change yours every 10 seconds or remove it at any time. Changing it does not extend its expiry.

The most common reaction sets the color of the card's edge. These are visitor marks, not a studio rating.
